Steps to change your Wi-fi name or password
1. Connect a phone, tablet, or computer to your CSG Wi-Fi or use an ethernet cord.
2. Open an internet browser and type in the web IP 192.168.8.1 into your URL (Address Bar) and hit enter.
3. The following page will open, here you will enter the username and password.
- Username is "root" and will be automatically inserted into the Username field.
- Password is the last 8 digits of the serial number and is located on the sticker on your modem.
4. Once you have clicked Login, the next screen will appear. Navigate to the left side of the screen and click "Wireless".
5. The next page will show you the default SSID (Wi-Fi Name) and the default password.
6. If you would just like to change the Wi-Fi Name (SSID), click MODIFY at the bottom of the page. This will allow you to overwrite the default name and password.
7. Once you type in the new Wifi name and password you can click the Apply button at the bottom of the screen. This will remove your device from the wifi network and you will have to login to the new network name with the new password.
8. This modem has multiple Wifi networks. The example above is changing the name of the 5 GHz band. If you scroll down you will see the 2.4 GHz band and can follow the same steps to change the name and password for this band as well. Please ensure that the names are different so you can tell which WiFi band a device is connected.
The 2.4 GHz band provides longer-range coverage but transmits data at slower speeds. The 5 GHz band offers less coverage but transmits at faster speeds than the 2.4 GHz band.
This device also has Guest WiFi bands that you can modify. This allows you to offer your Wireless internet to your guests without giving out your regular password.
