Router Location

Router Location

Where should you place your Pristine Router?

There may not be a perfect spot to place your router, but these outlined factors may help you find the best location!

Does router placement matter?
Placing your router in less-ideal locations can lead to signal interference, slower speeds, and frustrating connectivity issues. Even locations where you may want to place it, (cabinet, closet, etc.) are not ideal locations

1. Avoid obstructions!
Materials such as Metal, Brick, Concrete may obstruct your wireless signal.
These materials can not only weaken signal from the cell tower to your router but also the router's Wi-Fi frequencies to your devices.
If you do have a metal roof on your home, don't worry! It's not a deal breaker, but placing your
router in a window may be the best location for you to avoid as much interference as possible.

2. Can I place my router wherever I have space?
While this may work for some, there are some key factors to keep in mind.
-Wi-Fi signal only travels so far. Walls/book cases/and other materials will obstruct the signal.
-Avoid placing the router under or next to microwaves or other equipment that may use similar frequencies.
-Brick or concrete walls can obstruct signal to devices in other rooms

3. Choose a central location
Finding a central location in your home or office would be ideal. Ensuring all devices in range
have adequate signal while connected through Wi-Fi.
-Placing your router in a central location allows the frequencies to radiate 360 degrees and minimizes the distance the Wi-Fi  needs to travel to your devices.
-This may very by every home or office layout, but  a central location would be ideal

4. Test the router in different locations
The best part about Fixed Wireless Internet, is the option to pick up your router and take it anywhere!
-This is very helpful when choosing the best placement of your router, simply unplug the power supply from the wall and plug it in elsewhere.
-If you have one of our CSG routers, you have a battery back up which allows you to test the device in other locations without using the power cord.

5. What if moving my router does not improve my experience?
If you have a device in another room, that may be experiencing disconnections from the Wi-Fi, consider looking into a Wi-Fi extender or a Mesh Wi-fi System. These devices may help extend your Wi-Fi range to further locations in the house and help eliminate dead zones. While Pristine Internet does not offer these systems, they can be found at your local electronics store.
